Edwards Market Thoughts

12/7/2021 8:00am

Corn market is mixed this morning with outside markets higher in energies and equities. President Biden and Russia's Putin have a conference call at 10 a.m. EST regarding Ukraine and possible consequences if Russia invades.

Ethanol prices were hammered lower on nearby Dec and dragged ethanol margins below $1.00 a gal in parts of the Midwest. (Historically though that is still a pretty good margin.) Look for choppy sideways trade with eye on headline risk.

Soybeans are mixed this morning with soyoil higher again while meal drifts lower. Jan/Mar bean spread collapsing out to -8.25 cent carry this morning, see chart below.

Interior soybean basis is a mixed bag with some plants backing off 5 cents while others are pushing 5-8 cents. Palm oil futures jumped 4% overnight. Look for choppy 2 sided trade with focus on outside markets with an eye on US/Russia conference call this morning.
